No sound in "Mercedes Benz World Racing"

Please help.
The sound of my game "Merc. Benz World Racing" does not work on my system.

my system:
Sound-Card: Ess-Solo-1 (1938-Audiodrive)
newest driver from actual ESS-Website installed (year 2000, are there no newer
drivers?)
OS: Win98 First Edition
Directx9b
World Racing Patch 1.44 installed

and still no sound :-(
Im running out of ideas what to do :-)

Did anyone get the game to work with that configuration, and could give me
hints?

You must take the "NO CD Crack" and then the CD out of the Computer. At my
friend it has run so.
